About

The Alcohol, Drug Addiction, and Mental Health (ADAMH) Board of Crawford and Marion Counties is led by a governing board of 14 volunteer community members.

Our Mission
Our mission is to assure the availability of addiction and mental health services to the residents of Marion County and Crawford County. We work with our partners, schools, courts, job and family services, law enforcement, etc., to assess county needs and develop priorities. We then contract for services with agencies that have the appropriate licenses and credentials. We also evaluate the effectiveness of those services.

ADAMH board members are your friends and neighbors.
These individuals serve as members of the board because they have a passion for helping the citizens of Marion and Crawford Counties. Our members have varied professional and personal backgrounds. They include persons who have received services, family members, recovery and mental health experts, medical professionals, and others with an interest in community behavioral health services.

The resulting blend of expertise and perspectives makes the ADAMH Board uniquely qualified to make important community funding and program decisions effectively and efficiently. Board members dedicate their time and considerable expertise to working to ensure that our counties’ community support systems for individuals, families, and those impacted by mental illness or addiction have access to the services that they need in Marion and Crawford Counties.

ADAMH board members are essential in designing effective and efficient mental health and addiction systems of care in our two counties. Our members reflect on their personal and professional experiences to ensure that the plans and priorities developed meet the needs of the residents of Marion County and Crawford County. As a result, local citizen leaders are best positioned to assess local needs, determine local priorities, create local plans, and make local decisions.

ADAMH Boards work in their communities to meet local needs by:

  • Engaging community participation: Our Board member are actively involved in our communities in the development, planning, and delivery of community services and supports by encouraging community involvement in committee meetings, community forums, and other local activities. Through these activities, boards work to ensure that the voice of the community is represented during all board discussions.
  • Recruiting and promoting local financial support: Boards can pursue local property tax levies to support their local service systems. Our Board members actively participate in supporting levy advocacy and fundraising efforts.
  • Planning to meet community needs: ADAMH Boards are required to submit a community plan to the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services outlining plans for the provision of alcohol, drug addiction, and mental health services and supports. During this planning period boards orchestrate a process to solicit feedback from consumers, family members, community members, and other constituents.

So what does this really mean?

It means that the Board exists to offer a safety net of services for individuals with substance use and/or mental health disorders to help ensure our counties are healthy, safe, and strong.

“The mission of the Crawford-Marion ADAMH Board, under local leadership, is to assure the availability of high quality alcohol, drug addiction and mental health services to all residents through planning (assessing needs and resources, and determining priorities); purchasing cost effective services to the extend resources are available; increasing public awareness; coordinating services; and evaluating those services.”

We envision communities where recovery is possible, resiliency is innate, communities are supportive, stigma is eliminated and resources are plentiful.

Giving hope. Providing treatment. Teaching independence. Gaining peace of mind.  That’s the driving force behind the Crawford-Marion Board of Alcohol, Drug Addiction & Mental Health Services (ADAMH), responsible for monitoring, evaluating and planning all publicly funded mental health and substance abuse treatment needs for Crawford and Marion County residents..

Clients range in age from pre-schoolers and teens to older adults. Many rely on some form of public assistance, while others are steadily employed. Some are suffering from a neuro-biological disorder (formerly referred to as a “mental illness”), while others suffer from dependence on alcohol or other drugs.

Our network of critical support services strives to provide a unified system of treatment and follow-up care so those served don’t “fall through the cracks.” It is our goal to actively protect and maintain the dignity and individual liberty of those we serve, while helping them become healthy, active members in our community.

The Crawford-Marion ADAMH Board encourages the development of comprehensive, yet cost-effective, mental health and substance abuse services in our area, and works to ensure that these services meet the highest standards of care.
